you'll find that most of the metal pounders here have made their own forges, whether they be charcoal, coal or propane.

I have made four forges: one solid fuel, two gas, and one oil burner. The one I use most right now is a commercial cast iron coal forge.

i've made 3 forges so far.   a Tim Lively style charcoal,  a dry stack fire brick (the white ones) with propane and now i'm using an old converted mail box lined with ceramic wool using propane....

Yeah, I meant to say that a Dutch oven could be clayed to improve the shape of the interior for firepot purposes. With a hole drill and a little patience, I think this actually isn't such a bad idea....
